What is the Jeep Gladiator?
The all-new 2020 Jeep Gladiator combines the legendary off-road capabilities of the classic Jeep Wrangler with the towing power and capacities of a mid-size pickup. Drivers who choose the Gladiator will enjoy best-in-class towing power, best-in-class payload capacity, and the ability to depart from the beaten path whenever the mood takes hold. It’s the only open-air pickup truck in the industry, and drivers from Midwest City to Del City have been quick to take notice.
A New Jeep Truck Arrives at Last
The original Jeep Gladiator truck ran from 1962 to 1988, and for 2020, and Jeep has revived the name for a new truck platform based on the Wrangler. There was also the Jeep Comanche, which was in production from 1986 to 1992 — but since that model went into retirement, there hasn’t been a Jeep pickup available to drivers in the Chandler region!
Although the main body and drivetrain of this pickup was developed from the Wrangler, the Gladiator truck adds a 5-foot truck bed, an available roll-up tonneau cover, an available 115-volt in-bed power outlet, and a three-position tailgate for easy cargo loading. Drivers will have four Jeep Gladiator trim levels to choose from:
- Sport S
2020 Jeep Gladiator Towing Capacity
As we noted above, the Jeep Wrangler offers best-in-class towing capacity and best-in-class payload ratings compared to other vehicles in the mid-size 4×4 crew cab segment. When properly equipped, the Gladiator’s capabilities distinguish it from all competitors:
- Maximum Towing Capacity: 7,650 pounds
- Maximum Payload Capacity: 1,600 pounds
2020 Jeep Gladiator Performance
The only 2020 Jeep Gladiator engine option that will be offered at launch is a 3.6L Pentastar V6 that can generate 285 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. However, drivers who plan to do a lot of heavy lifting should note that Jeep has plans to offer a 3.0L V6 EcoDiesel engine that will produce 260 hp and 442 lb-ft of torque.
No matter which you end up equipping in your Jeep Gladiator, you’ll enjoy Trail Rated® 4×4 Capability thanks to the following array of standard and available performance features:
- Heavy-Duty Dana 44 Axles
- High and Low Range 4×4 System
- FOX Shocks
- 17-inch tech silver aluminum wheels on Sport S
- 33-inch all-terrain tires on Rubicon
- Available Adaptive Cruise Control and Forward Collision Warning
- Electronic Disconnecting Front Sway Bar
- Tru-Lok Electronic Locking Front and Rear differentials
- Exclusive TrailCam Off-Road Camera mounted on the Jeep Gladiator grille
- High-Clearance Fender Flares offering 11.1 inches of ground clearance on Rubicon
